Here we will explore some of the highlights and spots you can visit when staying in Killarney.

  • We do not advise driving on the beach
  • Great place to take a walk while touring the Dingle Peninsula.
  • Take a dip in the Atlantic ocean here.
  • Lifeguards are present in the Summer Months.

Tom Crean a famous Kerryman

From Annauscal County Kerry, Tom was a famous Polar Explorer who reached the South pole with Scott and Shackleton.

  • Visit the South Pole Inn in Annauscal when visiting the Dingle Peninsula
  • Its another quite area on the Dingle Peninsula not often visited

Located at a quiet area at Kinard this shingle beach has a beautiful Sea stack

  • Can be spectacular in high seas as waves hit off the Sea stack

If you were to stand on one spot in Ireland to get the best view, this could be it.

  • Be carful here as there are high cliffs and a low wall keep children close at all times.
  • You can see America, well nearly !!
  • You will see all the Blasket island’s from here
  • Whales, Dolphins and Basking Sharks can all be seen from here if the weather is calm.
  • You will have to be patient and binoculars would be helpful

The most Westerly beach in Europe Coumennole Beach is a striking place to visit

  • Use the car park and then walk down to the beach
  • Great place for picnics while visiting the Dingle Peninsula.
  • You will see all the Blasket island’s from here
  • No Swimming here but the beauty of the area will amaze you.
  • Another great photo opportunity everywhere near this beach.

Scene used in Hollywoods blockbuster movie “Ryan’s Daughter” The remains of the schoolhouse can be accessed via the Dingle Way a bit further on from the Dingle Museum.

Clogher Strand Kerry

Clogher Strand and the Sleeping Giant

A stop at Clogher strand and the view of the Sleeping Giant, a name given to one of the Blasket islands. It is a left turn a short distance after Louis Mulcahy pottery on the left.

When there are large waves here take great care and stay in the Car park, freak waves can clear the beach without warning, it is a non swimming beach but none the less a great photo stop.

Dunmore Point Dingle

Dunmore point Dingle

Amazing Cliffs views of the Atlantic Ocean, and the Blasket Island’s . Looking out over the Ocean this is a great place for a picnic. 

  • Great spot for Whale and Dolphin spotting
  • Late Spring and Summer Basking Sharks can also be seen here
  • Its a trail that costs €1 per person its on Private land leading to an old Ogham Stone and a Viewing tower

Ogham Stone at Dunmore point Dingle

Amazing Cliffs views of the Atlantic Ocean, and the Blasket Island’s . Looking out over the Ocean this is a great place for a picnic. 

  • Great spot for Whale and Dolphin spotting
  • Late Spring and Summer Basking Sharks can also be seen here
  • Its a trail that costs €1 per person to view this beautiful Ancient Ogham Stone and viewing Tower. 
Spanish Armada Dingle

Spanish Armada in Dingle

The Spanish armada came to help Ireland in 1588 AD, unfortunately due to bad storms many ships were shipwrecked off the West of Ireland. 

The Spanish Ship “Santa Maria de La Rosa” is shipwrecked in the Blasket Sound

  • Memorial is near Dunquin Pier
  • Armada 1588 – 1988 when this Stone was placed here.
  • Be carful here as there are high cliffs and keep children close at all times.

Dunquin Pier Dingle

Another beautiful spot on the Dingle peninsula, Boat trips to the Great Blasket island can be accessed here. You can see traditional boats called Currach’s here made from light wood, canvas and tar allowing them to lifted from the ocean to avoid being damaged by Atlantic Storms and rough seas.

  • Where the Islanders used to access the mainland
  • Still used today by local fisherman

Dunquin Dingle

One of the most beautiful settlements in Ireland and Europe, Dunquin is nestled between Slea head and Dunmore Point. It is just above Coummenole Beach on the Dingle Peninsula.

  • Most westerly settlement in Ireland
  • Coummenole Beach is Europe’s most westerly beach
  • Many derelict houses here that were evacuated during the great famine in 1846AD
